"WASIPITISHE MIRAA NA HII BARABARA AJALI ZIMEZIDI" KIRINYAGA RESIDENTS URGE THE GOVERMENT TO BAN MIRAA VEHICLES FROM USING THE EMBU NAIROBI HIGHWAY
Residents of Kirinyaga County are calling on the government to take swift action by banning miraa (khat) vehicles from using the Meru-Embu Highway. This comes after rising concerns about the safety risks and disruptions caused by these vehicles on the busy road.
The highway, a vital link connecting several regions, has witnessed numerous accidents involving miraa transport vehicles, which are often overloaded and operate at high speeds. Local residents argue that the frequent use of the highway by these vehicles has made it dangerous for both drivers and pedestrians
.
Moreover, the dust and litter from miraa transport have worsened the conditions along the road, causing environmental and health concerns. Residents also feel that the government’s inaction has allowed the situation to persist, putting their safety and livelihoods at risk.
The other day the residents of kirinyaga set ablaze a miraa vehicle transporting millions of cash after it was involved in a accident...
With public support growing, local leaders have echoed the residents’ calls, urging the government to enforce stricter regulations on miraa transportation. They believe that an alternative route should be considered to separate miraa vehicles from regular traffic and reduce the strain on the Meru-Embu Highway.
